Phoenician Route GADIR

To promote a new tourist route launched by Cádiz City Council, aimed at showcasing the city’s Phoenician archaeological sites and landmarks, we were responsible for the creative concept and design, as well as the production, of the various elements. This project was co-funded by the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund and the Institute for Employment and Socio-Economic and Technological Development of the Cádiz Provincial Council.
The initiative has primarily targeted two very distinct audiences: on the one hand, tourists visiting the city who need an easy way to find out about the points of interest; and on the other hand, a young audience, including children, who need the city’s history to be presented to them in an engaging way. To this end, taking advantage of the fact that the city already has a number of initiatives in place for other tourist routes, it was decided:
a) to promote the new Phoenician route to visitors. This was achieved by designing and producing advertising billboards, as well as by placing information stands at each location along the route. This was complemented by leaflets which provided a brief but highly visual explanation of the various sites to visit.
b) Furthermore, for children, an educational workbook was designed explaining everything from the city’s Phoenician origins to its customs, burial practices, etc. For this workbook, we based the concept on the figure of Mattan: Mattan is the name of the Phoenician found at the Cómico Archaeological Site (one of the sites to be visited), and a young Mattan serves as the central character, acting as the guide for visitors. A number of characters (the father, the mother, the cat…) were developed to illustrate each section of the educational workbook.
All the information was produced in four languages (Spanish, English, French and German) and was complemented by a promotional video lasting over two minutes, designed to encourage visitors to discover Cádiz’s Phoenician past.
