Earlier this year we began working with the Alicante-born bullfighter José María Manzanares, and one of the priorities set out in our roadmap for this season was to revamp his website.
This was a major and exciting challenge, and above all one where we had to pay very close attention to every detail, because one of the most important aspects of this client – as well as being one of the world’s most prominent and renowned figures in bullfighting – is his perfectionism when working with others.
José María Manzanares oversaw the entire revamp alongside his communications team. We started from the premise that no other bullfighter has a greater online presence than he does. He boasts a Twitter account with nearly 140,000 followers, and his Facebook ‘fan page’ has over 137,000 followers as of today. You can imagine the challenge we faced in developing his online presence.
So, we set to work. We started with a content management system which we customised to our liking so that the website could be easily updated at any time by staff with just a basic understanding of office software.
It is a highly visual website, designed to meet the needs of both professionals and enthusiasts, with content that is easy to share on social media and accessible from any browser, whether on a smartphone or a tablet.
A website featuring all the latest news and the best images from each season, with a layout that presents a collage of images arranged in three full-screen columns. Each image corresponds to a news item. By hovering the mouse over them, the user can interact with the image, view it in full-screen mode, share it on social media and, of course, access the published news item.
The homepage includes a menu with the following sections: The Bullfighter, Press, Editorial, Galleries, Calendar and Contact.
The ‘El Torero’ section provides comprehensive information about the bullfighter and his family, one of the most renowned bullfighting dynasties. Under ‘Milestones’ and ‘Biography’, users can find the most important dates in the Alicante-born bullfighter’s career. ‘In Memoriam’ is a tribute to his father, the late maestro Manzanares. This microsite takes visitors on an emotional journey through his finest performances, captured in photographs, videos and contemporary accounts. Moving on from the honoured father, the website proceeds to “The Family”, a section where visitors can read about and get to know the other key figures in a bullfighting lineage that stretches back through the ages, from the grandfather who was a novillero to the brother who is a rejoneador, including the two José María Manzanares, father and son. In the more personal section of the website, there is also space to get to know ‘The Team’ that accompanies the matador in the bullrings. ‘The Matador’ concludes with a section dedicated to ‘Statistics’, which lists all the trophies he has won since his alternativa.
As for ‘Press’, this tab contains all press releases, organised by date, category, tags, etc. The “Editorial” section highlights José María Manzanares’ status as a multifaceted bullfighter, whose image extends beyond the bullring to grace the covers of prestigious non-bullfighting publications, both national and international. These features include photographs taken by today’s leading fashion photographers.
The “Galleries” section features photographs and videos of his bullfighting performances, which are also meticulously catalogued to facilitate searching by category or keyword. Finally, the website is rounded off with the comprehensive “Agenda”, where users can see when, with whom and where the next bullfighting event will take place.
All in all, a very comprehensive project, and above all, a very satisfying one. It went live today, 27 November 2014. A very
happy client and we’re delighted too! Haven’t seen
it yet? What are you waiting for? www.josemariamanzanares.com
