Proposal for the Gadir Archaeological Site Competition

Beneath the Tía Norica Puppet Theatre in Cádiz lies one of the city’s most striking archaeological sites: El Cómico, now known as the Gadir Site.
The first Roman remains came to light when work began on excavating the foundations of the current theatre on that plot of land. However, the real surprise came when Phoenician layers were reached, featuring houses and streets that provide insight into the urban layout of the 8th century BC.
As part of efforts to showcase the site, in 2013 Cádiz City Council launched a public tender for the site’s restoration, enhancement and 3D reconstructions. With this in mind, we contacted the company Expociencia to submit a bid.
So we submitted a proposal outlining the museum tour, the various measures to showcase the site, multimedia applications using Augmented Reality, and explanatory displays via information panels and a cinema. All of this featured a strong emphasis on 3D archaeological reconstructions.
Although we didn’t win the tender in the end, we’re so proud of the work we submitted that we don’t want it to be left gathering dust in a drawer… so please enjoy the ideas we presented back then!
