Mae West Bus, Bombay

A bus on a terrace… rather odd.
That was the first thing we thought when we were given this brief. Bombay Sapphire gin, produced by Bacardi, asked us to create a brand installation for the new terrace that the well-known Granada nightclub, Mae West, was set to open this autumn.
When we went to view the space, we found this old American-style school bus right in the middle of the terrace, so we decided that would be the focal point of our design.
We designed an element that would stand out against the spectacular décor the venue had planned – so brightly lit and brimming with ethnic motifs – so we came up with a design that would really make a statement and stand out from the rest.
We created a completely white structure, illuminated in Bombay blue around the entire perimeter and bar, with an internal framework featuring drawers with white backlighting for the bottle rack, bearing the Bombay logo in vinyl, a full row of illuminated Bombay bottles running along the entire interior rear of the bar, two hinged windows to allow bar service, and an LED lighting system for the interior of the bus, ensuring the colour of the well-known premium gin always stands out.
For the exterior, we incorporated the brand using cut-out and printed vinyl applied to prominent areas of the bus.
A comprehensive project, in a unique space, on a wonderful rooftop terrace of a building right in the heart of Granada. Fancy a gin and tonic?
